How to use the CTR calculator

  1. Choose Find CTR to calculate the rate, or Find clicks to see what a target CTR delivers.
  2. Enter clicks and impressions from your ad platform, Search Console or email tool.
  3. Compare CTR across ads, keywords or subject lines to see which gets attention.

CTR formula

CTR = Clicks ÷ Impressions × 100
Clicks = Impressions × CTR
Impressions per click = Impressions ÷ Clicks

For email, platforms may use opens or delivered emails instead of impressions. Use the same base when comparing.

Example

An ad was shown 60,000 times and got 1,200 clicks. CTR is 1,200 ÷ 60,000 = 2%, or one click for every 50 impressions.

What is a good CTR?

It varies a lot by channel. Search ads often get 3% to 6%, shopping and marketplace ads 0.5% to 2%, and display or social ads under 1%. Compare against your own history and similar campaigns.

How to improve CTR

Match your ad or title closely to what people searched for, lead with price, benefit or offer, use strong main images, and test one change at a time. A higher CTR usually lowers your cost per click too.

Frequently asked questions

How is CTR calculated?

Divide clicks by impressions and multiply by 100.

Does a high CTR mean more sales?

Not always. Check conversion rate too; clicks that do not buy still cost money.

Why is my CTR low?

Usually the ad or listing does not match what people want, the image is weak, or it is shown to the wrong audience.

What is CTR in Google Search Console?

The share of search impressions that led to a click on your page.

Is CTR the same as conversion rate?

No. CTR measures clicks from views; conversion rate measures purchases or sign-ups from visits.
