eBay fee formula
Fees change often and differ by country, category and account. Defaults reflect US fees checked in September 2026; always confirm on the official fee page. eBay also charges the final value fee on sales tax the buyer pays, and some categories and international sales have different rates.
Example
An item sells for 60 with 8 shipping, so the order total is 68. The 13.6% final value fee is 9.25 and the per-order fee is 0.40, so eBay fees are 9.65 and the payout is 58.35. After a 25 item cost and 7 postage, profit is 26.35, a 38.75% margin.

As of September 2026, most US categories charge a final value fee of 13.6% on the total amount of the sale up to 7,500, including shipping and sales tax, and 2.35% on any part above that. Reducing eBay fees
Top Rated Seller status can earn a fee discount, and a store subscription can lower fees in some categories. Keep shipping charges realistic, since fees apply to shipping too.
