How to use the Shopify fee calculator

Enter the order total the customer pays.
Set your card rate for your plan. US online rates are 2.9% + 0.30 on Basic, 2.7% + 0.30 on Grow and 2.5% + 0.30 on Advanced.
If you use a payment provider other than Shopify Payments, add the third-party fee (2%, 1% or 0.6% by plan) plus that provider's own card fee.

Shopify fee formula

Card fee = Order total × Card rate % + Fixed fee

Third-party fee = Order total × Third-party %

Total fees = Card fee + Third-party fee

Profit = Order total − Total fees − Product cost − Shipping cost

Fees change often and differ by country, category and account. Defaults reflect US fees checked in September 2026; always confirm on the official fee page. The monthly plan price is a fixed cost and is not included per order.

Example

An order totals 80 on the Basic plan with Shopify Payments. The card fee is 80 × 2.9% + 0.30 = 2.62, leaving a payout of 77.38. After 30 in product cost and 9 in shipping, profit is 38.38, a margin of about 48%.

Shopify plans and payment rates

As of September 2026, Shopify's US plans cost 39 (Basic), 105 (Grow) and 399 (Advanced) a month on monthly billing, less when paid yearly. With Shopify Payments, online card rates are 2.9%, 2.7% and 2.5% plus 0.30. Rates for in-person and international cards differ.

The cost of third-party payment providers

If you use another provider, Shopify adds a transaction fee of 2% on Basic, 1% on Grow and 0.6% on Advanced, on top of the provider's own fees. For most stores, Shopify Payments is cheaper unless you have a special rate elsewhere.
