How to use the bulk margin calculator
- Copy the product name, cost and price columns out of your spreadsheet and paste them into the box. One product per line.
- Commas, semicolons and tabs all work as separators, and the name is optional, so cost and price alone are enough.
- Read the table to find your weakest lines, then download the CSV if you want to keep the results or share them.
Bulk margin formulas
The average margin is weighted by revenue, not a plain average of the line margins, so a high margin on a tiny product does not flatter the total. Cost here is your landed cost, so include freight and duty if you import.
Example
Paste three lines: a mug at 4 cost and 12 price, a bottle at 9 and 20, and a tote at 6 and 11. Profits are 8, 11 and 5, margins are 66.7%, 55% and 45.5%, and the weighted average margin across the 43 of revenue is 55.8%.
Finding the lines that quietly lose money
Most catalogues have a few products that look fine in isolation but sit well under the average once fees and shipping are counted. Sorting a pasted list by margin is the fastest way to spot them, and usually the fix is a small price rise or a cheaper pack size rather than dropping the product.
Costs to include before you paste
A margin is only as honest as the cost behind it. For imported goods use landed cost, and if you sell on a marketplace, subtract the platform fee from the price first so the margin reflects what you actually keep.
Frequently asked questions
What format should each line be in?
Name, cost, price. Commas, semicolons or tabs all work, and you can leave the name out and paste just cost and price.
Is my product list uploaded anywhere?
No. The list is processed in your browser and never sent to a server, so nothing is stored.
Can I paste straight from Excel or Google Sheets?
Yes. Copying cells gives you tab separated text, which this tool reads without any cleanup.
How many products can I paste?
A few thousand lines is fine. Very large lists are better split into batches so the table stays readable.
Why is the average margin not the average of the column?
It is weighted by revenue, so bigger sellers count more. That matches what your profit and loss will show.
